Part 13b: Mexico City...Full of Surprises!

When I think back to Mexico City, I think about some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life. So why is it that....

It would seem that the only pictures I have of food are of Chelsea eating churros? I mean, don't get me wrong theses were the worlds greatest churros and we were lucky enough to live a short walk away from the famous Churreria El Moro! When you are in Mexico City you MUST go! But really? I loved the street food. Why didn't I take pictures? I did a lot of cooking in the apartment because Chelsea's stomach was just not having it but outside I was in spicy Mexican heaven! Maybe I just wasn't focused on taking pictures. Remember, this was over 2 years ago and I never planned to write a story to share.

At this point I had been to 7 Latin American countries (4 locations for a month each inside of Colombia) in a little over 1 year. In that short time I went from being a long time housewife, retired from homeschooling to an online English teacher who was going through a divorce, which was to me the greatest tragedy of my life. I worked 7 days a week, worried that there would never be enough time for me to catch up. I also continued to meet with my counselor on the phone and my support group via zoom. Major life transitions are hard. Letting go is hard. I am so grateful for the support I had.

To many people it looked as if we were living an extravagant life. True, our locations were exotic and new. We were able to try new foods and go to beaches, museums and restaurants but we were living in very modest accommodations with only a carry on suitcase and backpack each. There was no buying of much other than consumables and low cost experiences. Oh, we did get something to keep in Mexico! Chelsea designed us matching tattoos! Mine has the "C" and hers has the "M." When I look at mine I think of all the days Chelsea and I have spent walking shorelines and talking and healing together!

The best thing about moving around so much is that walks are free and I don't get bored of a new neighborhood in a month! Mexico City has great architecture and walkability! We were there for Mexican independence day and that weekend was crowded and perfect for people watching!

There were a lot of interesting moments during our month in Mexico City but the most memorable one for me was my birthday. Chelsea threw me the best two person surprise party ever. She is the greatest daughter and best surprise thrower in the universe. When she told me that I had to take the day off of work because she was planning a surprise day I asked her to film a "Behind The Scenes" and she did. I am sharing it so that you can see just how awesome my day was! Viva Mexico!
